Senior Dog
At Dundas Euclid Animal Hospital, we are dedicated to making the most current veterinary health care practices available to your pet. Comprehensive physical examinations and screenings, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and excellent nutrition all contribute to the health and well being of our pets. As part of providing the best preventive health care to your dog we also encourage clients to have blood and urine analysis (or wellness profile) done on their pets annually. This is particularly valuable for dogs and cats who are 7 years of age or older.
In addition to the general exam, a geriatric wellness profile evaluates the teeth, skeletal system, monitors weight, and includes urinalysis and bloodwork. As well, the importance of diet and the changing needs in nutrition are discussed.
HOW OLD IS YOUR DOG?
The wellness profile gives us a more complete picture of your dog's health and well-being. It also provides a baseline for comparison with future profile results. Preventive healthcare is vital to a long and happy life. To book your pet's Senior's Profile or to obtain more information about our Celebrating Senior's Program, please call our hospital staff - we're here to help you with all of your pet's healthcare needs.

Why pets over 7 years of age? Cats age seven and older are at an increased risk of developing age-related problems such as arthritis, diabetes, liver, kidney, thyroid, and dental disease. Early detection allows for proper treatment. Animals in the wild try to hide ill health as a natural defence mechanism; so do our housepets. It is sometimes difficult to know when our pets are sick or in pain. This is why screening for subclinical diseases and complete bi-annual examinations are so important, especially in a cat's later years. A cat becomes a senior at age seven!
